Herman (Jim) Henry James, Jr, was called home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the age of 91. Jim was born in Mississippi to Herman H. James and Lois Velma Sykes James on March 28, 1927.

As a young man, Jim worked on his parent's farm and graduated from High School in Oxford, MS. Jim tried the U.S. Navy and then U.S. Air Force before finding a home in the Infantry of the Army. He served in three wars, and worked as an advisor during Viet Nam. Jim's first wife, Ruth James, died when the family returned to San Antonio from the Canal Zone. He served as Deputy Installation Commander at Fort Ord, Ca. In 1980, Jim retired at Fort Sam Houston as a Col. of the United States Army. Jim received the Legion of Merit three times. He holds a Master's Degree from University of Georgia in Public Administration.

After retirement, Col. James became a real estate broker and took care of his real estate investments. He was an active member of the Alamo Heights Optimist Club and the Texas Pioneers. Jim and his surviving wife of forty-one years are long-time members of Trinity Baptist Church, also serving as deacons.

Jim is also survived by his daughters, step daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
