Barbara Texanna Weaver Dennis was born to Hardy Othniel and Marjory Allingham Weaver in Thurber, Texas on October 7, 1918. She died on July 28, 2018. Funeral services will be held in Lubbock, Texas, at First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at Sanders Funeral Home on Friday, August 3, 2018, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the Atrium at Wesley Court in Abilene on Friday, August 10 at 10:30 am.

She attended schools in Fort Worth and Mineral Wells, graduating from Mineral Wells High School in 1936. On November 10, 1936, she was married to Robert Earl (Bob) Dennis at the First Baptist Church parsonage in Mineral Wells, Texas by Dr. W.W. Chancellor. They both attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, but their education was interrupted by the start of World War II.

They moved to Lubbock in 1943 after they had purchased Ace Printing Co., but Robert was called into the Submarine Service in 1944. Upon returning to Lubbock in 1946, they established Dennis Bros. Printers along with his brother Bill and his wife Mary Fae.

Barbara was a former member of First Baptist Church, Grace Sunday School Class, Prime Time Singers, New Song Women’s Ministry, Readers Club, Pierian Sorosis Study Club, and the Lubbock Women’s Club.
Her husband preceded her in death on April 20, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and four sisters, one daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn Harkey Dennis, one son-in-law, Jon Randles and one great-granddaughter, Faith Soben.

She moved to Wesley Court in Abilene in 2007. There she belonged to First Baptist Church, the Sarah Sunday School Class, and later Wylie Baptist Church. She belonged to several organizations within Wesley Court.

Barbara is survived by her son, Robert E. Dennis, Jr. and wife, Karen of Colorado City, TX; daughters Nancy Moran and husband, Bruce of Temple, TX, Jane Hager and husband, Lawson, of Abilene, TX, Peggy White and husband, Tom, of Lubbock, TX, Kelly Randles of Granbury, TX. and sister-inlaw Cherie Tosh Russell of Houston, TX. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Robert & Barbara Dennis Endowed Music Scholarship at Hardin-Simmons University.
