Benjamin was a guard at Andersonville prison during the civil war and died there in 1864 of Typhoid Fever. More about his unit :Co.E 4th georgia reserve regt.
Historical Notes:
Members of this unit were assigned as prison guards. They served as guards at Andersonville and at Camp Lawton. Several of the men died while guards at Andersonville and are buried there in Oak Grove Cemetery.

In 1900, Mrs. L.C. Bruce (Lucinda Catherine Bruce) Benjamin's widow applied for his military pension and it is included in the photo section of this memorial as tell tale proof. as far as L.C. Bruce being the widow of Benjamin Bruce, I have census reports that show this fact and will not include the reports on Benjamin's memorial however, in 1860 Ben's widow went by Catherine, then in 1870,after Ben had died , she went By Lucinda, thus, Lucinda Catherine Bruce, NEE Blankenship......
