He married Barbara (Dorsey) Andrews in 1952 and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Debra (Darrell) Evans, Linda (Vic) Hughes, Steven (Brenda) Andrews; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Mable Stevens and Shirley Osborn.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, John Andrews, Mary Evelyn Shuck, Louise Reinken.
Vernie was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War Era.
He was a supervisor for Regen Baking Company for 23 years and then worked as a caretaker for 12 years at Greenwood United Methodist Church where he was an active member.
Vernie will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
