Catherine Johnson
Catherine Johnson, 85, of Wells died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea. Funeral services were held yesterday morning from the United Methodist Church in Wells with an afternoon burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. The Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home of Wells handled the arrangements.
Catherine Johnson was born April 7, 1915 in Vesta to David Ormie and Bessie (Thorgerson) Alexander. She attended public school Number 114 in Vesta Township and graduated from Redwood Falls High School. Catherine also attended Mankato Commercial College. She spent several years working in Kiester and later worked as a bookkeeper and assistant cashier in the Citizen's State Bank in Echo. On September 6, 1946, Catherine married Fred Johnson at the Vesta Presbyterian Church in Vesta. After their marriage, the couple made their home on Fred's farm at Wabasso until moving to their home in Wabasso in August 1975. Fred died on May 16, 1990, and Catherine moved to Wells in 1999. She was a member of the Pilgrim United Methodist Church of Wabasso. Catherine served as treasurer of the church for 35 years. She was also active in the women's work and was a Sunday school teacher and directed a children's choir for several years. Currently, Catherine was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wells. She enjoyed embroidering pictures and gardening.
She is survived by daughters Bethel and husband Richard Kienitz of Billings, Mont., and Janet and husband Glenn Johanson of Wells; a son William and wife Rosemary Johnson of St. Peter; 12 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers Donald and wife Alice Alexander of Willmar, and Gordon Alexander of Vesta; sisters Bernice Alexander of Minnetonka and Agnes Vanderwerf of Redwood Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1990, and an infant son Steven.
