Sarah Monte Hershkowitz of Wickenburg, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sept. 11, 2000. She was 93.
Sarah was born June 26, 1907 in Congress, Arizona to Dolores and Augustine Monte. She moved from Congress in 1949 and had lived here since that time.
Know to everyone as "Grandma," Mrs. Hershkowitz worked at the local community swimming pool as an attendant for 25 years. Her kindness and generosity will be remembered by the many children, now adults, who came in contact with her there.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-laws George and Lisa Hershkowitz and Richard and Shirley Hershkowitz of Wickenburg; daughter Joyce Fields and son-in-law Larry of Wickenburg of Wickenburg, daughter Shirley Wachter of Flagstaff, daughter-in-law Dolores Hershkowitz of Wickenburg and nephew "Son" Mack Dowdy and his wife Wanda of Wickenburg. Sarah had 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband William, son Junior, three grandchildren, and two great-great-granchildren.
Visitation will be held at Frey Funeral home in Wickenburg from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Scripture reading will be there at 6 p.m. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wickenburg. Burial will follow in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the funding of the new community swimming pool. Contributions can be made to WAVE (Wickenburg Aquatic Volunteer Endowment) at the Stockmen's Bank, 540 W. Wickenburg Way, Wickenburg, Ariz. 85390
Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wickenburg was in charge of all arrangements.
