Age 69, son of Robert James and Madeline Gensheimer Crowner.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1969 and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Corpsman with Company G, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, Ninth Marine Amphibious Brigade, when he was wounded on September 20, 1968, near DaNang. Russ was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for "his courage, bold initiative and selfless devotion to duty in the face of grave personal danger." Russ was employed as a case manager for the Department of Welfare in Erie and Mercer Counties, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed bowling and boating.

He was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather Raymond Hinkler and a son Christopher Russell.

He is survived by his wife Janet Shrawder Crowner, a daughter Samantha (Crowner) Shacklock (Thomas); two children from a previous marriage, Lisa Glaze; Jason Crowner; grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Russ is also survived by brothers, Robert (Alice) Crowner, The Villages, Fla., Morris (Candy) Crowner, Erie Pa., and sisters Janis (Ross) Wyman and Rebecca (John) Wass, all of Erie, Pa; and a stepbrother Philip (Lealyn) Hinkler of Wattsburg, Pa.
