Although Margaret Hughes and Prince Rupert never married, she gave birth to his daughter, Ruperta in 1673. Ruperta married Emanuel Scrope Howe. The couple had three sons and three daughters: Rachel who died early 14 April 1701, Sophia Arabella b. Dec 1698 d. 4 April 1726, William b. 24 Mar 1699 d. 28 Jul 1733, Emanuel b. 7 Jan 1701 d 3 Apr 1721, and twins b 25 Jul 1794 James d. 3 April 1728 and Henrietta. Howe and Ruperta were appointed “Rangers of Alice Holt Forest” from 1699, which she continued after her husband's death until 1740. . Ruperta planted an oak tree near the Lodge in memory of her late father, Prince Rupent, which was replaced in the 1960's with a memorial marker. A new Lodge was built in 1810s on the site of the original one, which was destroyed by time. Her portrait was painted by Sir Peter Lely
