Boyd James Shaw was born May 5, 1936, the 7th of 12 children to Lawrence and Beatrice (Spensley) Shaw, in Makoti. He attended grade school in Wabek, ND and graduated from Makoti High School. He then went on to obtain his Teaching Certificate from Minot Teachers College.
Boyd married Ursula Jane Buettner on August 20, 1956. He taught school in Vang Township, ND for 2 years, Norma, ND for 5 years, Ryder, ND for 4 years and in Parshall, ND for 29 years. Boyd also obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Minot State Teachers College in 1966; all while supporting 6 children. He was also a volunteer fireman in Parshall.
Boyd enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and playing cards. His favorite game was pinochle.

Wife of 61 years, Ursula Shaw, Minot; daughters, Susan Weidman, Parshall, Connie Pfau, Minot and Carla (Steve) Suchowacky, Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Marty (Mary) Shaw, Makoti, Ron (Tuesday) Shaw, Goodhue, MN and Robert (Katie) Shaw, Moorhead, MN; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evernne (John, Jr.) Novodvorsky, Edna Zenz and Margaret Lange; brothers, Gary (Jo) Shaw and Curt (Cathie) Shaw; sisters-in-law, Lois Bower, Chris (Frank) Jones and Catherine Buettner; brothers-in-law, Don (Karen) Buettner and Ed (Karen) Knuckey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stacy Shaw, grandson, Timothy; and 3 great-grandchildren.
