Veteran - U.S. Air Force

Mario (34),the second child of Samuel and Suzanne Somodi Jimenez was born in San Diego, California on Sunday, July 9,1972. He was given the middle name "Silvas" in Honor of his Pateral Grandfather, Hilario Silvas Jimenez and Great-Grandmother, Alvina Silvas.
At the age of eight, Mario, along with his family moved from San Diego to Siskiyou County, settling in Fort Jones, California. He attended Quartz Valley Elementary School, Scott Valley Junior High School and Graduated in 1990 from Etna High School. A "well-built" big boy, everyone always thought that he played or should have played football, but his love was for a game of tennis and he lettered in the sport while in High School.
After High School, Mario moved to Redding, California where he attended Shasta College for two years. Looking for something different and exciting, in 1993 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Trained to be a Law Enforcement Officer, he was stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Layton, Utah. In Support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm he spent a brief time in Egypt and was Honorably Discharged in 1997 after four years of service to His Country.
While in the Military, Mario met his wife to be, Cherise Lake. In the presence of their families, they were married on April 15, 1994 in Reno, Nevada. Two years later, on March 12, 1996, a daughter, Audrey Suzanne was born. Mario and Cherise were divorced in 1997. On January 29,2003 Mario married Celeste Hunsaker.
Shortly after his discharge from the Air Force, Mario attended the Fred F. House Academy as part of the Utah Department of Corrections. In 1998, he was hired by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department as a Corrections Officer in the County Jail where he remained employed until the time of his sudden and unexpected death.
Mario's hobbies included collecting miniature liquor bottles, playing foosball, and his passion, riding his Harley Davidson Police Special. He loved to travel, whether it was on the road trips around the country via his bike or to far away places. In December 2006, Mario fulfilled his dream of going to Amsterdam and Ireland and was making plans and looking forward to a trip to Prague, Bucharest and other East European capitals. He especially enjoyed spending time hanging out with his many good friends and buddies whom he looked upon as "Brothers" and Family.
Mario was a curious and energetic child. Frequently blamed or getting caught for doing something he should not have been. Always the charmer, he was quick to make friens and would light up a room when he flashed his big, goofy grin upon enetering. Everyone always liked Mario and he loved to socialize. He was just one of those people you could not help but enjoy being around and no matter how mad he might make you, it was impossible to stay angry at him. He had a gift for making people laugh and throughout his short life, managed to keep the sparkle in his eye.
Along with his daughter, Audrey, Mario had come home for his "Little Bro's" wedding on Saturday, April 28, 2007. In the early morning hours of, April 30, 2007 he passed away in his sleep in his parent's home.
On Wednesday, May 9, 2007, following an honor guard escort, a celebration of life and funeral service will be held at 11:00 am. at McDougal Funeral Home.
