When he was a year old, he with his parents and grandparents came to America and settled on a farm 5 miles east of Clermont, now owned by Mrs. Sam Erickson, where he grew to manhood. On Sept. 7, 1886 he was united in marriage to Anna Jacobson, who preceded him in death nine years ago. To this union ten children were born, one son, Archie, preceded his father in death 11 years ago, and one daughter, Mrs Ella Nygaard, passed away May 28, 1945. Six daughters and 2 sons survive, namely, Mrs. Alma Anderson, Mrs. Hazel Olson, Mrs. Helen Yauslin of Clermont, Mrs. Blanche Wander of West Union, Mra. Clara Olson of Elgin, Mrs. Gladys Halverson, Henry and Lloyd Ostlie of Waterloo. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, six of the grandsons are in the service, and 21 great grandchildren, also five sisters, Mrs. Hilda Aanes, Mrs. Christina Kittelson, Mrs. Evan Lien of Clermont, Mrs. Mina Olson of Postville, and Mrs. Thomas Lien of Leroy, Minn.
He lived at the same farm for 65 years. He was secretary for Gunder-Clermont telephone company for 40 years.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Schutte funeral home at Postville, and the West Clermont church. Casket bearers were six grandsons, Milo Olson, Marion Olson, Leo Ostlie, Alden Anderson, Vernon Anderson and Harvey Anderson.
