She was the daughter of Leeland Waitt and Ida Gile. She grew up in Newburyport and West Newbury, MA.
On Dec 14, 1946 in Newburyport, MA she married George Eugene Arnold Jr, son of George Eugene Arnold Sr and Edith Currier Goodwin.
They moved to Kensington and lived there for over 10 years before settling for many years in Kingston, on the corner of New Boston Road. She worked for over 20 years at Sylvania in Exeter, retiring as a coil coating inspector. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Kingston and was an active Sunday School teacher for many years there. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, swimming in the pool, knitting and crocheting. Her family fondly reflected that Shirley was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was exceptionally generous.
She was predeceased by her loving husband; and daughter, Cheryl (Arnold) Jordan in 2001.
Mrs. Arnold is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George Arnold III and Brenda Arnold; her daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Frank Greene; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Waitt; sister, Lillian Hills; and several nieces and nephews.
Brewitt Funeral Home handled the arrangements with funeral services at the First Congregational Church, Kingston. Burial followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Kingston.
