Deanne Herron Schmid, 81, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Deanne was born May 5, 1937, a daughter of Edward and Genevieve Herron of Des Moines, IA. They preceded her in death. Her sisters Joyce Crowley Crilly and Sheryl Kelly survive, as does her husband, Allyn George Schmid. They were married February 27, 1960, in Des Moines, IA.

She is also survived by their four loving children: Ellen Schmid Blix of Nashville, TN; Anne Therese Wiles (James) of Tampa, FL; Mary Bridget Landry (David) of Jamison, PA; and Paul Allyn Schmid (Katie) of Chicago, IL. Allyn George Schmid, Jr. preceded her in death in 1961. She is the cherished grandmother of nine: Stephen, David and Adam Blix; Alison, Joseph and Carolyn Wiles; Michael, Elyse and Ryan Landry.

Deanne and her husband, Allyn, lived in Peoria from 1961 until moving permanently to Ft. Myers, FL, about 5 years ago.

Deanne graduated summa cum laude from Clarke College in Dubuque, IA, where she met Allyn, who attended Loras College. They married and moved to Chicago for a short time, where she taught high school. In Peoria, Deanne was an active volunteer while she raised her children, then she returned to school at ICC and Bradley University to pick up another major and worked as a medical technologist at American Red Cross. She returned to her first career and love, teaching chemistry at Bergan High School/Peoria Notre Dame from where all of her children graduated. In her retirement, she and Al worked with friends at Callahan Pork Processing in Peoria.

Deanne and Al were very active members of Holy Family Church and then St. Vincent de Paul. They were integral members of the Cursillo movement in Peoria for many years. For a time, the Lord called Deanne to lead the Cursillo program in the women’s prison system. In Ft. Myers, they joined St. John XXIII Catholic Church where they developed many friends attending daily Mass.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 28th, 2018 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. Visitation begins at 9:00 am, until the time of mass. Msgr. Jason Gray will officiate and burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials in Deanne’s name may be made to Peoria Notre Dame High School.
