William was cared for at the American Red Cross Hospital in Chaumont, France for "broncho pneumonia." He died Oct 23, 1918 and was buried in the American Military Cemetery in France, #10, Plot G, Grave #285. He was disinterred, date unknown, and returned to his family for burial in the family cemetery in Tennessee.
