Barbara A. Huls, 73, of Sterling, died Saturday evening, July 21, 2018 at her home. She was born on August 26, 1944 at rural Sterling and graduated from Sterling High School in 1962.

She married Arlen Huls on April 12, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Sterling and worked for Lincoln General Hospital, Johnson County Hospital, and Lakeview Nursing Home in Firth. They then lived in California for four years and she worked for Hyatt Grand Champion Gift Shop and a plumbing warehouse. After moving back to Sterling she worked for Bryan Hospital in Lincoln and Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Sterling. She enjoyed doing yard work, gardening, and playing cards.

Survivors include one son, Steven (Kelly) Huls of Sterling; one daughter, Janatte Knobel and friend Bill Starr of Rosamond, CA; four grandchildren, Trevor Huls, Sydney Huls, Ashley (Cody) Vernon, and Travis (Lauryn) Knobel; step-grandchildren, Paige, Josh, and Macie Whalen; great-grandson, Kingstyn Vernon; two sisters-in-law, Cindy (Gary) Hoehne Lien and Linda Truscott and friend Roger Moss; one brother-in-law, Roger (Karen) Huls; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Esther Wohlers Hoehne, her husband, Arlen, who died on November 14, 2012, her brother, Harold Dean Hoehne, and parents-in-laws, John and Alma Huls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Sterling with Pastor Art Brinkmeyer officiating.

Cremation will follow the service and private inurnment of the cremains will be at the Sterling Cemetery.

A family prayer service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday in the fellowship room of the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with the church elders in charge. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. The family will meet and greet relatives and friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
