She was born on October 18, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas to Israel Miguez, Sr. and Mabel Sanders Miguez.
Shirley was a lifelong area resident and member of Calvary Baptist Church in Port Acres. She retired from the Port Arthur Independent School District as a teacher’s aide after 10 years of service.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, David “Chief” Hawthorne and son, David “Davey” Hawthorne, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Melody Chronistier and husband Don; two sons, Jack Hawthorne and Lanny Hawthorne and wife Nicole; brother, Ray Miguez and wife, Dean; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
