Melorah Cook was born about 1831. Melora was the daughter of Lucius Cook and Prudence Lynn, both natives of Connecticut. Melorah and her two oldest siblings were born in New Jersey. Her younger siblings were born in Illinois.

In 1840, the Lucius Cook family was living in Warren County, IL. In 1850, Lucius, Prudence, and their children were living in Henderson County, IL. In 1841, Henderson County was created from a portion of Warren County so Lucius and Prudence may not have moved, just living in the new county. In the 1850 census, Ezekiel Lynn and David Lynn, Prudence Cook's brothers, were their neighbors, and James Lynn, Melorah Cook's future husband, was living with the Cook family.

Melorah married James Lynn on 09 May 1853, in Warren Co., IL. He was a native of Connecticut.

In 1860, Melorah, James, and their children were living in Frankfort, Montgomery, IA. By 1870, they had moved to Sherman, Montgomery County, IA. In 1880, James, Melora, and their nine children lived in Kiowa, Barber County, Kansas. James was a sheep farmer. A land patent was issued 30 Jun 1880 for James Lynn in Barbour [sic] County, KS, for 45 acres.

In 1900, Melorah was living in Navajo, Apache, Arizona Territory, with her son W.J. (William) and her daughter, Minnie. The census shows Melorah's marital status as "widowed". The date and location of James Lynn's death is unknown. In 1910, Melorah was living in Raton, Colfax County, New Mexico. Minnie, her daughter; George W. Lynn, her grandson; and Dora F. Lynn, her granddaughter, were living with her. Melorah died 09 Jun 1914 in Raton, Colfax County, NM. The location of her burial is unknown.
