John Howard Vance, 47, of County Route 112, Addison (Tuscarora), died suddenly due to an accident on Monday, July 16, 2018 near his home.

John was born in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania on January 19, 1971. He was the son of John Henry and Peggy Anita (Young) Vance. He grew up on the family farm in Borden and was a 1989 graduate of Addison Central School. While in high school. John studied heavy equipment operation at the Coopers Career Center of BOCES in Coopers Plains.

Following school, John was employed by Crystal Valley Farm in South Corning for 5 years and then worked for the Town of Tuscarora Highway Department for 7 years. He then began a 17 year career with Austin Construction in Campbell. Some of the projects that he was involved with at Austin’s were preparing gas well sites and repairing and building docks along the lakes in the region. He often did side jobs with concrete work. John loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter.

Surviving are his daughters, Sierra Scarberry (Chris Aumick) of Beaver Dams and Mariah Scarberry (Justin Gross) of Campbell, his grandchildren, Scarlett Gross and Waylon Gross, his parents, Peggy and John Henry Vance of Addison, his siblings, Jacklin (Bruce) Knoll of Howard, Jolene Reed (Mike Shaddock) of Addison, Jeanna Vance (Sheldon Hibbard) of Addison and Jeffrey Vance (Morgan Blend) of Addison as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and great nieces and nephews.
