This is the story of Julie A. (Hendryx) Blake. Julie was a creative spark of color that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. She was known as “Mimi”, a name given to her by the grandchildren. Mimi was an amazing wife, mom, daughter and friend.

Julie’s story starts on April 4th, 1958, the oldest child to Rex A. & Georgia L. Hendryx. Julie was born in Lafayette, IN and grew up on the family farm in Brookston, IN with her sister, Peggie (Hendryx) Cudworth. Julie would spend her childhood and later her adulthood years in Brookston. She was a huge fan of the Frontier Falcons, whether it be athletics or academics. She graduated with Academic Honors and Salutatorian recognition. During Julie’s high school experience, she met the love of her life, Jimmy D. Blake. Jim and Julie had a whirlwind romance and were married on February 1, 1975.

Jim and Julie aspired of owning a farm someday, and with their hard work and passion, that dream came true. While maintaining the farm, Julie also had an extensive career in Real Estate and Brokering. However, Julie was an entrepreneur at heart. She was known to dabble in a little bit of everything whether it be designing and engraving trophies, working side by side with Jim with the mowing business, and her true passion of restoring antique items and bringing them to life with her creative skillset. Julie was a huge advocate for 4-H. Her love for animals (especially cattle) and helping kids learn about animal care and showmanship, were key components of her 4-H dedication.

Julie’s grandchildren were the joy of her heart. Time spent at Mimi’s house was very special for the grandkids, as there was always an adventure to be had. Mimi would be right by the side of the grandkids jumping in mud puddles too. Parents were advised to always have an extra pair of clothes, knowing one set would be “farmified”.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Julie are her father, Rex A. Hendryx, and father in law, Melvin Blake. Loved ones that will forever miss Julie are her husband and best friend, Jimmy Blake (43 years of marriage), and their children, Jennifer Brown (Chad), Jill Blake (Jeff), and Jay Blake. Julie will forever be remembered by her precious grandchildren; Emily, Dylan and Elise.

And so the story goes on until we see and hear that contagious laugh and beautiful smile of our Mimi and Julie again. A celebration of Julie’s life will be held at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home, 101 W. 4th St, Brookston, IN on Wednesday, July 18th from 4 pm – 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 19th at 10 am at the Federated Church, 202 S. Wood St. Brookston, IN. Memorial donations in memory of Julie Blake may be donated to White County 4-H &/or Tippecanoe County 4-H Clubs or the American Cancer Association.

The family would like to thank the compassionate professionals at IU Health Arnett Hospital for the wonderful care that Julie experienced.
