Gary Dale Roberts, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 13, 2018 at his home in Lawton, Oklahoma after a two month battle with lung cancer.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

The Rosary will be on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

He was born in Apache, OK on July 17, 1941, the youngest of four boys to Guymon Jolly Roberts and Viola (Rinker) Roberts. He was raised in Apache and attended Boone School and graduated from Apache High School in 1959. He attended Connors College in Warner, OK on a football scholarship and later transferred to Cameron University.

He married Beverly Ann Carter and they had two sons John Keith and Jeffery Dale Roberts. They divorced. Gary married Sandra (Banta) Crusius on May 14, 1966 in Lawton. He adopted Sandra's son, Deke, in the fall of 1966 and they became a family. Julia Michelle arrived in 1967 and Michael Andrew in 1969.

As a young man, Gary worked for Arkla Gas, Kitty Clover Potato Chips and Coke Cola in Lawton. When he turned 21, he went to work for Southwest Sales Distributors rising in the ranks from warehouse helper to General Manager of their three warehouses in Lawton, Altus and Ardmore. He retired in 2001 just shy of 40 years service. Gary wasn't a man to sit around in retirement, so he continued to work for Jim Eason as a groundskeeper at St. James Apartments. Even that wasn't enough to keep Gary busy, so he often worked for Billingsley Ford as a driver.

Gary had an incredible work ethic which he passed on to his children. He was an amazing man that demonstrated true kindness and love. His everlasting love of his wife, children, grandchildren and even their friends was never ending. Gary will be dearly missed but his kind smile, hearty laugh and gentle touch will remain with us all. Remember, if he didn't pick on you, he didn't love you!

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, his children Deke (Denise) Roberts of Edmond, OK; Julie (Gregg) Hostetler of Edmond, OK; and Michael (Barbara) Roberts of Lawton, OK., John Keith and Jeffery Dale Roberts. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tonie (Erin) Gresalfi of Virginia Beach, VA., Michael, Jr., Matthew Roberts and a step granddaughter Jaelyn Tims of Lawton; Alyssa, Aubrey and Cameron Hostetler of Edmond. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Lucille Roberts of Mustang, OK and Shirley Roberts of Apache, OK as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Julius and Georgia Banta, his parents, Guymon and Viola Roberts, three brothers, Wendall, Wayne and Don, his sister-in-law Ginger Roberts, step-grandsons, Matthew and Dillan Brabant, and Beverly Ann Carter, his ex-wife.
