Lawrence "Larry" Andrew Garro, 88, of Carlton, MN died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his daughter's home. He was born March 15, 1930 in Pensacola, FL to Dominic and Hildegarde (Erickson) Garro. He spent his childhood in Brainerd, MN where he met and married Donna Jean Lyons. They moved to Jacksonville, FL where he began his career as a Greyhound Bus Driver. They moved back to Minnesota in 1971 and he retired from Greyhound with over 35 years of service.
After retirement, Larry enjoyed spoiling grandchildren and great-grandchildren, keeping up with old friends, and meeting new people. He enjoyed working on his sister's farm in Brainerd and tearing apart and fixing anything. He also loved telling "Greyhound" stories, and eating out, especially at his favorite restaurant "The Barn" in Brainerd.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Donna Jean (Lyons) Garro, his parents, his brother Frank Garro, and his great granddaughter Chloe Sonnek.
He is survived by one son, Michael (Janet Swanson) Garro of Bemidji; three daughters, Kathy (Tim) Porter of Tuscumbia, AL; Jacque (Tim) Holden of Coon Rapids, MN; Deb (Dale) Tribby of Prior Lake, MN, one brother, Tom Garro (Judy Daus), one sister, Mary Ann Moser, and one sister-in-law Carol Garro, eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and a large extended family.
Visitation will be held from 4pm until the 6pm Funeral Service Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, MN. A time of visitation will be held from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm Thursday July 19, 2018 at Nelson Doran Funeral Home, 202 8th Ave NE, Brainerd, MN. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
