Service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, July 13, at Perry Funeral Home, 34 Mercer St, Newark, NJ. Viewing will be held on Thursday, July 12, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Perry's. Cremation is in Evergreen Crematory, Hillside, NJ.

A.J. leaves to mourn: his mother, Trina Jones; dedicated stepfather, Kasim Samad Turner; father, Jason Hill; a sister, Destiny Hill; one aunt, Patricia Browning; cousin, Ethan Browning; and a host of other family and friends. Send condolences to perryfuneralhome.com.

A.J. Jones, son of Trina Jones, was born in Newark, NJ at Beth Israel Medical Center on December 7, 1998. A recent high school graduate, AJ was a highly intelligent young man who often scored highest in his class and on various gifted and talented quotients. AJ, also known as "Kickup" by his friends, was a caring, loyal and devoted to all those who loved him. He was known for his smile, encouragement, non-judgmental character, selfless deeds and his uncanny ability to make anyone laugh. AJ was a quick learner who quickly found out that he had a knack for business, as member of the S.T.E.P. Manhood Training Program. Passionate about everything he became involved in, he soon found a love for music and began to write and record at Madd Bass Studio, where he discovered his natural talent to rhyme and story tell in a way where others wanted to listen to his new song. He soon encouraged his friends to collaborate and was often asked to collaborate on other artists projects.

As he planned his future that included his starting a job and finishing up various musical projects, AJ's life was cut short on July 5, 2018 when he was senselessly shot and killed. True to AJ's character, as he lay fighting for his life, he encouraged his friend to "stay alive, OK" as his spirit left him. His friend survived! Some people are born and you instantly know that they will change lives. AJ is one gift from God that has already changed lives, saved lives, rescued, defended, educated, and loved. I know he has left and imprint on all who have had the honor of knowing him. So this not goodbye, but I'll see you later.

AJ is survived by his mother Trina Jones, Aunt Patricia Browning, a sister, Stepfather Kasim Samad Turner, and a host of loving cousins and friends.
