Morgan was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a member of the Nassau Country Club, a trustee of Friends' Academy, Long Island, and a member of the Dutch Reformed Church. He was an executive (Head Buyer) of the J. C. Penney Company.

Morgan passed away at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA three weeks after arriving in San Diego from complications of emphysema.

He was survived by two sons, a daughter, and two grandsons. He was also survived by ten siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
