Nelson Benton, 86 years old, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, July 6, 2018. He was the husband of Martha Ann Benton. They shared 61 years of marriage together. Born May 1, 1932, in Opp, Alabama, he was the son of Broughton D Benton and Alma Benton. After graduation, Nelson enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country in Japan, Korea and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. He later was employed at F.W. Woolworth and Michaels working as a manager. He enjoyed building furniture for his grandchildren, along with beautiful hand turned segmented wood bowls. He was remembered for his sense of humor, and unending love for his family. He was survived by sons David of Sterling, Nebraska and Timothy of Atlanta, Georgia. David and his wife Beverly provided them with five grandchildren: Sarah, Katie, Jessica, Jacob, and Robert who is already in heaven. He also had three great grandchildren: Cayden, Aubrey, and Desimus. Nelson's parents and two brothers Pat and Homer are preceded in death. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 with services at 10:00 AM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home 6800 South 14th St. Entombment Lincoln Memorial Park Mausoleum.
