Margaret Helen Sanders Musselwhite, 87, of Jacksonville, FL went to be with her Lord July 11, 2018, surrounded by friends and family, in her home. Margaret accepted her diagnosis of brain and lung cancer with grace and dignity 2 years ago. She fought with her patented brand of stoicism and pragmatism, never giving up or giving in. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Gene Musselwhite (2009). Margaret was born, August 29th, 1930 in Fernandina Beach, Fl. Her family home on Date Street was known as a familiar and happy place amongst friends and neighbors. She was a cheerleader at Fernandina Beach High School and went on to attend Florida State University and The University of Florida, where she obtained a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Over the course of her working life, Margaret strived to prepare 1st graders and kindergartners with the best educational experience possible. Eventually, she led over 1,000 children on their early paths to knowledge. She became lovingly known as "The Absent Minded Professor" for her ability to lose things that were actually still in her hand. Over time, it was a common occurrence to have former students call out her name at malls, restaurants and family outings, and share cherished memories of their time in her classroom. Margaret used her time in retirement to the fullest. She and her late husband were board members at the Ortega River Club and avid dancers and socialites. She also traveled the world and had passports stamped from all around the globe to prove it. She continued to teach as an aide at Hyde Park Elementary School, played her beloved Bridge and Hand and Foot regularly with her friends, and doted on her grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her sons, Mark and Owen, her grandchildren Catherine and James, and her older sister Berta, as well as nieces, nephews and countless friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 10 am at St. Matthews Catholic Church, burial will follow at 2 pm at Jacksonville Memory Gardens.
