He was the son of John Colvett Sr.,migrated from North Carolina to Marshall Co. TN., with his half-brother, John D. Colvett III. They left North Carolina in 1827, settled in Lawrence Co. or Franklin Co., Al., for approximately 15 years.
He married Jane, on Nov. 5, 1846. She was born Mar. 9, 1821 and died June 5, 1881.
On Oct. 24, 1845, Thomas Doggett, sold to Frederick colvett, 145.5 acres for $900, witnessed by B. W. Nowlin and J. D. Colvett
