During the First World War, Rollin enlisted as a private in the Army on June 1, 1917 at Columbus Barracks,and was assigned to Co I 4th Ohio National Guard which mobilized as Co I, 166th Infantry. He was promoted to Corporal on January 4, 1918. He served overseas as part of the American Expeditionary Force in France in Aisne-Marne and Champagne-Marne from October 31, 1917 until his death (of wounds suffered in combat) on August 18, 1918.
