Frederick K. Moon, 90, of Conneautville, PA and formerly of Albion, peacefully passed to eternal rest on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Rolling Fields Nursing Home in Conneautville.

Fred was born February 27, 1928, in Conneautville, a son of the late Frank S. and Marie E. Higley Moon.

Fred graduated from Albion High School. He started work at an early age, delivering newspapers on horseback, after HS he worked for Penn DOT before joining Norfolk and Western Railroad, where he found his true passion and spent 39 ½ years around trains. His love for his work and the train yard was shared with many a friend as he often recited stories about his experiences. After retiring from his foreman position, he continued independently consulting for N&W railroad at Trinity Industries for several years.

Fred loved watching the Steelers and the Pirates, and especially loved being a fan at any sporting event, especially ball games when his children were involved. He knew how to brighten a room with his wit, and how to tenderly bring calmness to any matter at hand. He lived his life on "moon-time", never rushing a conversation, and always giving his undivided attention, which is remembered by many in the community especially when he was playing the role of Santa Claus which he happily fulfilled for many years. Fred was active in the Springboro Fire Department, and Fire Police, member of the Spring Grange, American Legion Post 615, and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne M. (Ebert) Moon, a son Gary Matthew Moon, a brother Frank R. and sister Myrtle D.

Survivors include two daughters, Katherine J. Moon of Meadville and Karen S. Moon Thomas and her husband Charles D. Thomas, of Warren, PA; a grandson, Charles D. Thomas, Jr. of Belgrade, Serbia; companion Elizabeth Stagl and her children, Matthew and wife Steph, Nikki and her son Tegan.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of celebration of Fred's life will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in 501 Washington St. Conneautville, PA 16406 on Monday, July 16, at 11:00 a.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCauley Funeral Home, 1405 Main Street, Conneautville.

Memorial donations may be made to Springboro Fire Department 176 N. Main Street Springboro, PA 16435, or a charity of choice.
