Elva Wright Adams

ST. GEORGE - Elva Wright Adams, 93 passed away on July 3, 2018 peacefully at her home and surrounded by her loved ones. Elva was born on Christmas day 1924. She was truly a gift to all who ever knew her.

Her parents, Caroline Burke Wright and Alma “Tam” Wright raised her in Hurricane, Utah. Elva was the youngest of 9 children. She was an excellent student and played the piano, bell harp and cello throughout high school. She was the Homecoming Queen at Hurricane High School and The Peach Days Queen for the Washington County Fair.

During World War II she worked in defense plants in Gabbs, Nevada and Salt Lake City. Elva was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and trained in piper cub airplanes. She also spent time in California during the war where her sisters and she enjoyed horseback riding, skating, picnicking, the beach, and going to hear the big bands perform.
When the war ended she met and married Brant Keat Adams on April 4, 1946 in Hurricane Utah. They made their home in Washington, Utah where they raised their 8 children. They were very hard workers and took great pride in their family. Elva and Brant enjoyed the simple things in life together, like picnics and road trips. She called him Sweetheart and he called her Mama. They were married for 62 years before his passing on November 7, 2008.

Elva was a member of the LDS Church. She shared her beautiful musical talent in every auxiliary of the church. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Washington Elementary and also was the pianist for the Christmas plays and spring programs. The children adored her. Later, Elva was employed at Redlands RV Park where she gained many new friends. However her greatest and most appreciated work was in the home. She was a wonderful mother who taught by example how to treat others, how to work hard, how to show gratitude for the blessings in life and how to love with your whole heart. Her posterity will forever be grateful for her presence in their lives. Her positive attitude, her understanding, her encouragement and willingness to sacrifice were just a few of the attributes that made her so amazing.

Elva was a true lady, always taking pride in her appearance. Her motto was, “No matter how you feel, you get up, fix up and show up.” With her golden blonde hair
and clear blue eyes she accomplished just that. Elva truly enjoyed life and saw and experienced a lot of amazing things in her 93 years. She also endured trials and physical pain with courage and grace. Elva never complained. She saw the good in everything and everybody. Elva’s example of love and living for the sake of others made her most beautiful in the eyes of God.

Elva is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and siblings, her son Brant Kelly Adams, grandchildren- John Clint Adams and Kassie Pectol Lee, great grandchildren- Holden Buh, Carter Brooks McNabb, Jerym Samuel Lee and Wyatt Brant Jolley.
