He was the son of Isaac Newton Anglen and Lydia Cade. His Last name is found spelled both "Anglen" and "Anglin". This was due to his grandmother "Nancy Anglin" keeping the "Anglin" name and remaining in Philippi, Va "now West Virginia". Nancy's husband changed his name to "Anglen" and relocated in Monroe County, Illinois. It is possible that John Anglen's middle name was Leonard, but this is not a documented fact. His middle initial was in fact "L". John Anglen left Philippi with his parents and other family members joining up with grandfather "Samuel Anglen", who owned a large tract of land near Maeystown, Ill. John died in Carroll County, Missouri around 1874. It is unknown how he died or why he had recently moved his family there. Shortly after his death, His wife "Mary Elizabeth Erwin" remarried to Benjamin Rust and moved to Crawford County, Arkansas. One of his children remained in Carroll County, Mo. The rest went with their mother to Arkansas.
