DEATH OF JOHN FOREMAN
One of the County's Honored Pioneer Citizens Summoned Last Night
"Uncle" John Foreman died at 10:30 last night at the Charleston Sanitarium, after a lingering illness, the result of diseases and infirmities incident to old age.
"Uncle" John Foreman was one of the county's oldest and best known pioneers, having lived here since 1853 or for nearly half a century, and his death will be deeply regretted by all who have ever known him.
John Foreman was born in the District of Columbia March 17, 1823. When about twelve years old he went to Lexington, Ky. with his parents.
On October 10, 1842, he was married to Miss Harriet E. Richardson, of Franklin County, O. They came to Charleston in 1853 but soon removed to Seven Hickory township which remained their home till death. Mrs. Foreman died in February, 1881, at the old homestead. They became parents of seven children: William T., John R., Joseph I. P., David B., Thomas, who died in 1880, and Edward P. The surviving sons are among our most highly respected citizens.
Mr. Foreman was a man of excellent character and had the confidence of a large circle of friends. In politics he was a staunch democrat and had been honored with a number of official positions, all of which he filed creditably. he was, as well, a Christian man and a faithful member of the Baptist church; he helped established the Baptist church in our city and often contributed to its support.
The funeral over his remains will be held at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon from the Baptist church in this city. Interment at Mound cemetery.
