Christian first married to Anna Louisa (went by Lois?) Herman (1796-1858) in c1824 at presumably Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina, though a marriage record can't be found. Christian and Lois were the parents of five known children, namely:
1. Anna Catharina Ernest Swaim (c1825-???)
2. Sanford Daniel Ernest (1827-1863)
3. Angelina Charlotte Ernest Reich (1829-1886)
4, Horatio Ernst (1837-1910)
5. Henry Francis Ernest (1840-1878)
There may be additional children that died young. There is an Immanuel Ernst (d. 1834) buried at Friedberg Moravian, who may be a son.
After Lois died, Christian remarried to the widow Rachel Jane (went by Jane) Jones Rominger (1821-1896) on 31 Aug 1859 at Forsyth County, North Carolina and had an additional two known children:
