Christina A. Shockey, 94, of Houston, Texas, previously of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday night, June 29, 2018 at the Treemont Healthcare Center in Houston.

Born September 25, 1923 in Winfield Kansas, she was the daughter of Fred and Nellie Abildgaard. She was raised on a farm outside of Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1941.

Christina was united in marriage to Adron B. Shockey on October 5, 1941 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Adron preceded her in death on February 8, 2001. Christina moved to Houston in 2003 to be near her children.

Christina (also known as Teene by many) was a brilliant seamstress making matching wedding suits for Adron and herself as well as her daughter’s wedding dress. She enjoyed cooking and gardening as well as playing the piano. In later years, Christina developed a love of the computer even when it was a struggle for her to see the screen because of her failing eyesight. She loved having people stop by to visit. She had a huge heart and a quick wit. Christina was fiercely independent and taught everyone to blaze their own path. Her tenacity and spunk are something we should all try to emulate.

Her family includes her sons, Stuart A. Shockey and wife Sharron of Hempstead, TX and Loren D. Shockey of Houston; her daughter Kaellen D. Mirt and husband Kerry of Houston, TX; her grandchildren, Timothy Shockey, Christina Shockey, Meghan Mirt-Kelner and husband, George Kelner and Rion Mirt; her great-grandchildren Bracken, Lydia and Charlotte Kelner as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved so dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband Adron, Christina was preceded in death by her brothers, her son in law Kerry Mirt and her granddaughter Christina Shockey.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 8:30 A.M. until service time.

Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Christina to the organization of their choosing. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
