Lifelong resident of Pembroke Maine, Heman was the son of Samuel and Sarah (Cox) Carter. He was a farmer and married Lucy M. Bosworth the daughter of Leonard P. Bosworth. They had several children including Emma A., Benjamin, William Bosworth, Evertt, Anna Maria, Lillian A., Harry B., Estella
M., and Leonard Benjamin.
After Lucy's death Heman married Ephemera "Effie" Rice and had children, Mildred A., Ervina, Arean, Eugene E., Myrtle, and Earl.
Heman died of heart failure and his remains were placed in the tomb at Forest Hill in Pembroke. At least four of his of his children died of diphtheria in 1892, Emma A., and Leonard, children of Lucy and two of his children with Effie, Ervina and Arean Anna and perhaps more. They are recorded as having been buried in Ox Cove Burial Ground. I have not been able to find a location for that burial ground.
