Oliver “Ollie” Letterle, 89, of Chestnut passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Ollie was born on September 17, 1928 in Latham, IL, the son of Fred Oscar and Mary Frances (Kerwood) Letterle. He married Erma Horn on May 17, 1952 in Mt. Pulaski, IL, she preceded him in death on June 28, 2017.
Ollie is survived by his children: Tony (Eva) Letterle of Mt. Pulaski, Patricia (Kevin) Jason of Chestnut, Kevin (Kathy) Letterle of Robinson, IL, and Bryan (Shelley) Letterle of Mt. Pulaski; his daughter-in-law, Lynda Letterle of St. Joseph; his sister, Louise Savage of Milton, FL; his nine grandchildren, Michael Letterle, Angie Stewart, Mary Jane (Ben) Gilly, Stephanie (Jordan) Klein, Ryan (Jess) Jason, Korey (Rebekah) Letterle, Kody (Ashley) Letterle, Olivia Letterle, and Jamee Letterle; his ten great-grandchildren, Jade, Makayla, Keyleigh, Chasey, Kendra, Elliana, Levi, Miles, Isabelle, and Isaac.
Ollie is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, David; and his brothers, Oscar, Virgil, Orville, Raymond, Charles, and Ralph.
Ollie proudly served his country in The U.S. Army where he was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Ollie enjoyed being in nature hunting for arrowheads, he has accumulated quite a collection over the years. Ollie was a proud Volunteer Firefighter for the Chestnut Fire Department for many years. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Services for Ollie will be held at 12:00P.M. noon on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mt. Pulaski with Mark Weber officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (11:00A.M.-12:00P.M.) on Thursday, July 5, 2018 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Lake Bank Cemetery in Mt. Pulaski, IL. where full military rites will be accorded by Mt. Pulaski American Legion Post # 447. Memorial donations may be made in Ollie’s name to Chestnut Fire Department.
