WELL KNOWN DELTA PIONEER ANSWERS FINAL SUMMONS

Following a severe illness of six weeks, Leonard D. Hauser, well known Delta man, for nearly 30 years a citizen and business man of this city, closed the book of life and passed to that bourne from which none ever return. Though death was not unexpected for several weeks, still he is none the less mourned and many there are who will miss his cheerful voice and words of encouragement as they go about their daily tasks. The deceased born at Union, Iowa, on March 6, 1859. On September 11, 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Ana Hoffman, and the two made their home on a farm near Union. Here they remained eleven years, or until February, 1891, when they moved to Delta where they have continued to make their home. Mr. Hauser was one of a family of ten children, seven of whom still survive. One sister, Mrs. Hattie Smith, from Union, Iowa, came here three weeks ago. Elias J. Hauser, another brother, passed away in Denver about two years ago. He was one of the earliest pioneers of Delta, having lived here in 1881, before the Indians had left, and Hauser Flats were named for him. L. D. Hauser is survived by his wife and five children, as follows: Russell E. and Eldon W. of Montrose; Charles L. of Delta; Harry D. of Dubois, Wyoming, and Mrs. J. L. Daniels of Bakersfield, California. The deceased was a member of the Christian church and a charter member of the Delta lodge of Odd Fellows, who will have charge of the funeral services. Death was due to pernicious anemia. All the remaining brothers and sisters live in and near Union, Iowa, where the father settled in 1850, driving in with an ox team. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30, from the Christian church, conducted by Rev. O. R. McCully, formerly pastor of this church. The pall bearers will be chosen from charter members of the Delta I.O.O.F. lodge.

LAID TO REST

On Sunday afternoon, August 8th, the mortal remains of Leonard D. Hauser were laid to rest in Garnet Mesa cemetery, attended by a great number of sorrowing friends. Rev. Oliver B. McCully of the Christian church was the minister in charge, while the ritual service of the Odd Fellows was employed at the grave. This was one of the most largely attended funerals ever seen in Delta, a silent testimonial of the esteem in which the deceased was held.
