Mr. Barnes was a native of Madison County and was a son of the late Woodard Daniel and Elizabeth Barnes. He was an Army veteran of WW II and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was formerly employed in the body shop at Asheville Dodge.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline H. Barnes; one daughter, Kitty Love of Candler; two sons, Ronnie Barnes of Candler and Joseph H. Barnes of Goldsboro; two sisters, Beatrice Rogers and Lois Shepard of Asheville; one brother, Harlem Barnes of Asheville; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
