Joseph Felix Biver Jr., 52, died on Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, in Superior, following a stroke.


He was born on Aug. 29, 1953, in Shell Lake to Joseph F. and Ruth (Swetland) Biver. He graduated from Shell Lake High School in 1971 and from the University of Wisconsin-Superior with bachelor of science, master of science, and education specialist degrees.


He taught at Athens Elementary School from 1974 to 1993. He also served as Athens village president.


Since 1993 Joseph spent his winters in Sun City, Ariz., where he cared for his mother.


He was a member of St. Joachim and Anne Church in Sun City and also attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner.


Joseph enjoyed traveling Europe.


He was vice-president of Wisconsin Days Club of Sun City, a Volunteer of Handicapables, and a member of the Sun City Travel and 500 Clubs.


He is survived by his mother, Ruth; four brothers, John, Thomas, and James, all of Spooner, and Ted (Judy) of Rice Lake; two sisters, Susan (Duane) Hughes of Frederic and Mary (Dan) Denver of Cumberland; and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his father, in 2000.


A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner. Fr. Andrew P. Ricci will be celebrant.


Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Spooner.


Memorials to Spooner Memorial Library are preferred.
