Funeral services for Edwin R. Mockett, 84, former Lincoln county court reporter for 30 years, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hodgman-Splain. Rev. Herbert Bird will officiate and burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Mr. Mockett died late Tuesday at his home, 2941 So. 16th.

Born in Genesee, Wis., he came to Nebraska as a youth. The family crossed the Mississippi and Missouri rivers by ferry boat and settled in Cuming county on a farm. Later they moved to Wisner where the father was county superintendent. The Mocketts lived in West Point before coming to Lincoln in 1880.

Mr. Mockett attended grade and high schools in Lincoln. He received his law degree from the University of Nebraska.

For a time, he worked as a stenographer at a law firm. Later, he worked in the state librarian's office and for supreme court judges. He was employed for two years in the offices of Governors Dawes and Thayer before receiving an appointment as reporter from Judge William Marshall at Fremont.

He left Fremont in 1898 to become stenographer for Judge Lincoln Frost here. For 12 years, Mr. Mockett served during Judge Frost's first office tenure. He then acted temporarily in place of A. W. Richardson for Judge Willard Stewart, finally being appointed as regular reporter.

Mr. Mockett was one of the founders and charter members of Westminster Presbyterian church. During the past five years, he had been an elder in Faith Orthodox Presbyteran church. He served for a number of years on the board City Mission, part of which time he was president.

Surviving are his wife, Ada; daughters, Emily, Lincoln, and Mrs. Julia Patrick, Fort Collins, Colo.; sons, Philip and Edwin, both of Lincoln; brother, Ebenezer E., Lincoln; and granddaughters Marcia and Joan.
