John C. Ellis, MD, passed away on June 25, 2018.

Born August 28, 1930 in Baileyton, Tennessee, he practiced medicine for 46 years in the Chattanooga area with Dr. Leroy Sherrill, was a long-time resident of Missionary Ridge, and retired to Alexian Village. He served in the Air Force in Japan during the Korean War. He was noted for the many lives he touched, his inquisitive intellect, his infectious humor, his love of politics, literature, science, photography, travel, and his generous charity. He was a dedicated Christian.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Brown Ellis, three sons, Bryan, Paul (MD) and David (PhD) and eight grandchildren: Caroline, Hannah, Griffin, Haden, Sawyer, Jack, Julia, and Gretchen, as well as his sister, June Dykes, and her two children and her grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at Alexian Village on June 28 at 2 pm with reception to follow and graveside services at Zion Cemetery in Baileyton on June 30 at 2:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Alexian Employee Christmas Fund.
