Uzie was born on March 27, 1930 in New Bern, North Carolina. She attended primary and high school in New Bern, graduating from New Bern High School. She was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church in New Bern where she faithfully served on the Altar Guild. In addition to being a homemaker and raising three children, she was an avid reader and volunteered for various organizations around New Bern. Among those were as a guide at the The New Bern Fireman's Museum, as a guide at Tryon Palace, and as a Gray Lady at the Craven County Hospital. She was always involved in and supportive of her children's activities, whether it be school functions, Boy and Girl Scouts, or high school band.

In the 1970's, she was involved with a group of friends to open the first bed and breakfast inn in New Bern known then as "the King's Arms Inn" located on Pollock Street. It is still in operation today under a different name and ownership.

Uzie was preceded in death by her father Robert Glenn Broastreet, Sr., mother Sula Taylor Broadstreet, and brother Robert "Buddy" Glenn Broadstreet, Jr.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held at Christ Episcopal Church in New Bern, NC on June 28, 2018 at 2 p.m. Immediately following the memorial service, family and friends are invited to a reception to be held in the Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall. Uzie will be laid to rest beside her parents and brother at New Bern Memorial Cemetery in a private ceremony prior to the memorial service.
