Richard was born September 24, 1935 in Abilene, Texas to Charles Payne Ivey and Jessie (Rushing) Ivey. He grew up in Abilene attending Abilene Christian High School and Christian College (now University). Richard married Patsy Johnson in Abilene on September 6, 1955. He retired from the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation after 30 years of employment. Richard was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Jessie Ivey, his daughter, Laura Lea Ivey and his stepbrother, Casey Brown of Ignacio, Colorado.
Richard is survived by his wife Patsy Ivey of Abilene sons, Randul Charlies Ivey and wife Mary Ann of College Station, and Richard A. Ivey and wife Mary of Ft. Worth; brothers, Dr. Charles Ivey and wife Sue of Abilene and Ron Stailey and wife Wanda of Round Rock. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Cleddy Varner, Ernest Age, John Eason, Marion Eversdyk, Dudley Longacre, and Dr. Joe Hodges. Lonnie Taylor and Dr. James Casey will service as honorary pallbearers.
