James and Edythe didn't have children and when his sister Mary Honora "Nora" McDermott Billett, died Feb 17,1918, a month after giving birth, James and wife Edythe Swick McDermott adopted the baby boy, Paul D. Billett. After Nora's death, husband James Billett cared for his nine other children age three through fifteen.
