HOWLAND — Alma Joan Palette, 88, of Howland, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018, at her home.

She was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the daughter of Glenora and Jesse Skidmore.

Joan, as she was known by her friends, was a graduate of Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg and worked as a telephone operator in her younger years.

She belonged to First United Methodist Church of Warren for over 60 years and was an active member of several church organizations throughout the years.

She was a devoted wife to her late husband, John William Palette, whom she married Feb. 11, 1950.

She was kind, caring, and loving. She always saw the good in one and all. She was very friendly and sociable, and she was adored by everyone who met her. She was a committed and supportive mother and grandmother who was proud to brag about her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and playing cards.

Surviving are her two children, Linda (James) Green of Howland and Donald (Barbara) Palette of Naples, Florida; three granddaughters, Jessica Palette of Manhattan, New York, Jenna Green of Orlando, Florida, and Lauren Palette of Long Island, New York; a sister, June (Skidmore) Yates of Buffalo Grove, Illinois; a brother-in-law, Ralph Palette of Vienna; two sisters-in-law, Lena Jane Skidmore of Clarksburg, West Virginia, and Elaine Palette of Vienna, and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2007. Also preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Howard Skidmore.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Warren with Pastor (Dan) Devadan officiating. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the sanctuary of the church prior to the service.
