"James S. Anderson, 86, went to meet his Lord on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at his home at 3888 Ricklyn Drive, Chambersburg, following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Cambridge Springs, Jim was born in Millers Station on June 21, 1924, a son of the late Arthur A. and Florence M. Benedict Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria L. Whiteley Anderson, and his younger brother, Lloyd Anderson, who welcomed him to his heavenly home.

Jim graduated from Cambridge Springs High School in 1942 and then worked at Talon, Inc. in Meadville for a year before going into the Army Air Forces in 1943. A technical sergeant, he flew 27 missions in a B-24 bomber over Europe during World War II. He received several medals and honors while serving his country. Upon returning from the war he was employed at Wolfe’s Hardware in Meadville for a short time and then began employment with the United States Postal Service in Cambridge Springs where he worked for 32 years, retiring in 1986. Jim was a life time member of the Cambridge Springs First Baptist Church. He also was a member and Past Master of Covenant Masonic Lodge 473 in Cambridge Springs, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Erie Consistory and the Zem Zem Shrine. In addition, he was a past member of the Cambridge Springs Volunteer Fire Department. James enjoyed singing in the church choir, golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Jim had a very loving family and is survived by four children, Roger J. Anderson and his wife, Jeannie, of Elkins, W. Va.; Rae C. (Anderson) Postlewaite and her husband, Gary, of Waterford; Richard L. Anderson and his wife, Nancy, of San Diego, Calif.; and Shaun L. (Anderson) Green and her husband, Greg, of Chambersburg. In addition, Jim had seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Martha (Anderson) Bickel of Canton, Ohio, and a sister-in-law Patricia (Carter) Anderson of Port Clinton, Ohio. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs. The Rev. Rod Beardsley, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cambridge Springs, will officiate. A Masonic service will also be a part of the celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cambridge Springs 339 South Main Street, Cambridge Springs, Pa. 16403.
