The 1880 US Federal Census Record for Mooresville lists children:

William, George, Julia, Otto, Jennie and Albert.

It indicates that John was born in Hanover G. and that Caroline was born in Nadine. William and George were born in Ohio and the other children in Indiana. John's employment was Marble Works (making monuments like this one) and his sons William and George were Sculptors.

His obituary appeared in the Martinsville Republican on February 11, 1897 and is summaried below:

Born in Hanover, Germany, he came to American in 1839. On March 10, 1848, he married Catherine Lumbbert (Lubert in her record), in Cincinnati, Ohio. Nine years later, they moved to Indianapolis. They moved to Mooresville around 1874, and he opened the Mooresville Marble Works in a shop on East Main Street, across from the Post Office. Father of 13 children, five of whom were living when he died.
