Melvin "Mel" Kiefel, 68, of Riverton, died at Riverton Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. At his request cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Church of Christ, 39 Gas Hills Road, Riverton, Wy. at 11:00 am. Pastor Ed Murray will officiate.
Melvin Val Kiefel was born on January 16, 1946 in Cheyenne, WY to Valentine Kiefel and Esther (Heberlein) Kiefel.
He was placed in the Wyoming State Training School at a young age. He was placed before he was five years old. While there he worked on the farm. When he became older, he gained his independence and lived in Riverton for many years. In the mid 1990's CES (Community Entry Service) became a part of his live and he lived in a group home.
Always busy he worked with CES at the Neat Repeat, shredding papers for local businesses, and for a short period of time, worked on the bottle contract.
Family and friends said that he loved crafts, which included, crocheting, making quilts, making jewelry out of beads, and sewing. Over the last two years, he had taken art classes at Central Wyoming College, where he learned to work with fiber arts and weaving. He also enjoyed cooking and gardening. His passion was animals of all kinds. Over his lifetime he took care of numerous dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and all kinds of farm animals. He usually entered some kind of food and crafts in the fair, enjoying the complete experience. Spending time with family and friends was his favorite. He loved the song " Tequila Makes her clothes fall off" Melvin was a very intelligent man.
His survived by his sister, Linda Miller and her husband Everett of Billings, MT.; and his family and friends at CES.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Esther and his sister Dorothy
