Born Chicago Illinois, died after battling bladder cancer and heart disease for 10 years with the most stoic grand gesture to stay alive to be with his loving wife Nancy. Thomas Sleeman died peacefully with his wife and daughter holding his hands and grandson Declan by his side. Tom is survived by his wife Nancy B. Sleeman, sons Kevin and wife Tina, Dan, Michael and daughter Kristin. Tom is also survived by his two brothers Barry and Bob. He was preceded in death by his son Gary and first wife June.Thomas graduated from the University of Illinois and had a very long career as Chief Financial Officer of Unocal Oil Company. Nancy and Tom first met in Chicago in the same fourth grade class together. Each of them earned metals, Nancy for the smartest girl, and Thomas for the smartest boy. Later in life they were reconnected by mutual friends. Married one year later they spent almost 20 years together, each making the other person happier than they could ever imagine.Charitable organizations: Thomas and Nancy have been generous philanthropists throughout their lives. They started the Sleeman Leadership Foundation at the University of Illinois with an endowment and a format to teach strong ethical leaders. These funds have elevated many young business students selected from the University of Illinois. Many other individuals have benefited from their generous gifts of college funds and gifts to multiple organizations. Scripps Health has benefited over the years with funding for research.On the day of his passing, his wife Nancy came rushing to his bedside to ensure he felt safe in his final hours.
