Dorothy was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and retired from Draft Plumbing and Electric.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Gladwell in 1987; three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include her husband, V.J. Whitmer of the Bridgewater Retirement Home; daughters, Susan Gladwell of McGaheysville, Ann JaNell Gladwell of Moneta; son, Charles L. Gladwell and wife Juanita of Kentucky; brother, James “Jimmy” Arehart of Glen Allen; sister, Agatha “Gay” Meeks of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, John Whitmer, Jr., Chris Gladwell, Angela Mullikin, Charles Helms, Sydney Helms; three great-grandchildren, Cate Gladwell, Lauren Mullikin, Caleb Mullikin; two step-sons and their families; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg by Pastor Paul Pingel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 South Wayne Ave., Waynesboro. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
