Mary Geneva Abell, 95, of Taylorville, formerly of Springfield, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018.

Born August 14, 1922, in Christian County, the daughter of John Clarence and Mayme (Sheedy) Abell, Geneva graduated from Kincaid High School and received an Associates of Liberal Arts and Sciences degree from Springfield Junior College (now Benedictine University). She worked as an accountant for the State of Illinois for 36 years, retiring in 1979. Geneva was a member of the Retired State Employees Association, Catholic Daughters of American and St. Agnes Church in Springfield before moving to Taylorville Estates in 2008.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Robert Abell and sister, Kathryn OBrien.

Surviving is a sister, Thelma Goebel of Morrisonville; nieces: Karin Fisher, Sharon (John) Alberts, Carol (Joe) Harding, Cheryl (John) Eckert, Barbara Goebel and Mary Jo Goebel; nephews: Deacon John (Sandy) OBrien, Lenny (Carolyn) Goebel, Larry (Karen) Goebel, Dan (Betsy) Goebel, Ed (Micki) Goebel, David (Karen) Goebel and Gerry (Michelle) Goebel; fifteen great-nieces, seventeen great-nephews and several great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and cousins.

Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2018, at St. Maurice Catholic Church, Morrisonville; visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., at the church. Burial will follow in St. Maurice Cemetery.
